How to use this in 5 minutes
1Read the title. Say, “The title is ‘The Kite in the Pine.’ What do you think will happen?”
2Your child reads. Say, “You read it to me. If a word is tricky, tap its sounds and slide.” Help only after a real try.
3Talk, then write. Say, “Tell me the answer out loud first. Now write it.”
Tip. Have your child read it twice, once to work out the words and once to make it sound like talking. The second read is where the story comes alive.

The Kite in the Pine

Then the wind stops. The kite dips and spins. It lands on top of a big pine.
“Can we get it back?” Jen asks. Max has a plan. He gets a pole. He lifts the pole and taps the kite. Flap, flap! The kite drops, and Jen grabs it.
