I can write my name
For youHow to use this in 5 minutes
- Show it first. Say: “Watch me write your name. A capital comes first, then small letters.” Then your child traces it and tries it alone.
- Trace, then write. Say: “Start at the dot. Tall letters touch the top line, small letters stop at the dotted line.”
- Read the sentence. Say: “This says, ‘I can write my name.’ Trace it, then write it.”
Tip. Three good copies beat a page of tired ones. Stop while it still looks neat, and come back to it tomorrow.
My name
Grown-up: write the name on the first line in yellow highlighter.
Trace the sentence. Then write it.
What to look for
- A capital letter first, then small letters
- Tall letters touch the top line
- Small letters sit between the dotted line and the baseline
- A finger space between words
If it’s hard
- If the pencil wanders, trace the name with a finger first, then a crayon, then a pencil.
- All capitals is common at this age. Praise the capital at the start, then show one small letter at a time.
