First sight words: I, see, the, a, my, go

The six words a new reader meets in nearly every first book. Your child traces them, finds them, then reads four little sentences.

Have Arbor plan your child’s whole year. Like this sheet, every lesson tells you what to say and do, step by step, at your child’s level. Free for 14 days.

How to use this in 5 minutes

  1. Say the word. Say, “This word is the. We see it so often that we learn it by heart. Now say it with me.”
  2. Trace and find. Say, “Trace it. Now find every ‘the’ in this row and circle it.” Then see and my.
  3. Read to me. Say, “Point under each word as you read. Then draw a line to its picture.”

Tip. Write each word on an index card. A quick read goes in the done pile, and a slow one stays out to practice tomorrow.
